2009 - one of the opulent vintages!
The year started with dry and cold weather and only in April, there came a little bit of rain. Flowering happend in the third quarter of June, followed by a period of heavy rainfalls and high average temperatures in July. It was important to watch the fungus diseases. Sunshine in August and September increased the ripening speed, so that by beginning of October the grapes were ready for harvest (100% by hand). We started with Pinot blanc and continued slowly with Riesling in warm and sunny weather. The small percentage of Botrytis gave us the opportunity to wait with the good sites, so that we finished the Riesling harvest on November 16th with a spectacular BA.
In comparison with the elegant, slim Kabinett vintage 2008, the 2009 Rieslings are more opulent, lush and rich.
